Celebrating Movement, Community, and Healthy Aging
5,991.86 miles. One week. One incredible community!
From October 5–11, CyberCycle riders across the country came together to celebrate Active Aging Week 2026, proving that staying active, setting goals, and enjoying a little friendly competition have no age limit!
Throughout the week, riders challenged themselves, cheered on their teammates, and contributed to an impressive 5,991.86 miles. From personal milestones to team victories, this year's challenge was a celebration of movement, motivation, and the power of community.
Active Aging Week is an annual celebration that highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle as we age. Coinciding with the national Humana Active Aging Week initiative, CyberCycle's annual challenge brings that mission to life through interactive fitness and friendly competition.
Physical activity plays an important role in healthy aging, helping older adults maintain strength, cardiovascular health, mobility, and independence. But staying active isn't just about physical fitness. Social connection, mental engagement, and having a sense of purpose are equally important components of overall well-being.
That's where community fitness challenges can make a meaningful difference.
Programs like the CyberCycle Active Aging Week Challenge offer several benefits for older adults:
Encouraging Physical Activity: Setting a shared goal gives participants an extra reason to get moving and incorporate exercise into their daily routines.
Building Social Connections: Team challenges bring residents together, creating opportunities for encouragement, friendship, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
Supporting Cognitive Engagement: CyberCycle combines physical activity with interactive gaming, encouraging riders to engage their minds while exercising their bodies.
Creating Motivation Through Friendly Competition: Leaderboards, personal milestones, and team recognition give riders something to work toward and celebrate.
Promoting Confidence and Independence: Recognizing individual achievements can help older adults feel empowered to continue pursuing their fitness goals.
For senior living and active aging communities, challenges like Active Aging Week offer a fun, structured way to encourage participation in wellness programming while strengthening connections among residents.

Top Individual Riders
A special round of applause goes to Fred Cornell from Westminster Point Pleasant, who led the individual standings with an incredible 148.05 miles in just one week! Fred's accomplishment is a reminder that age doesn't have to define our ambitions. Whether it's setting a new personal record, reaching a mileage milestone, or simply staying consistent with exercise, there's always an opportunity to challenge ourselves. Congratulations, Fred, on an outstanding performance!
More Than Miles: Building a Culture of Wellness
While the leaderboards and trophies add excitement, the real value of Active Aging Week extends far beyond the final mileage totals.
For senior living communities, organized fitness challenges create opportunities for residents to connect, support one another, and take pride in their accomplishments.
A resident might join to help their community climb the leaderboard, discover a new favorite activity, or simply enjoy riding alongside friends. Whatever their motivation, participation creates opportunities for meaningful engagement.
CyberCycle helps make these experiences possible by combining the benefits of stationary cycling with immersive games, scenic virtual rides, and connected leaderboards. Riders can enjoy an individualized workout while contributing to a larger community goal. And when residents see their progress recognized, whether through a digital badge, leaderboard placement, or team celebration, it can provide the encouragement they need to keep cycling long after the challenge ends.
That's what Active Aging Week is all about: celebrating what we can do today while building healthy habits for tomorrow.
Keeping the Momentum Going
Active Aging Week may only last seven days, but the benefits of staying active and connected can continue year-round. Through ongoing CyberCycle challenges, including weekly and monthly competitions, riders have opportunities to set new goals, track their progress, and stay connected with a community of fellow cyclists.
For activity directors, wellness coordinators, and fitness staff, these programs offer a way to keep residents engaged, celebrate achievements, and make physical activity a fun and consistent part of community life.
