Fall Frenzy 2026

Bringing College Campuses Together Through Fitness and Friendly Competition

21 college teams. 15 days of competition. 575.92 miles ridden. Fall Frenzy 2026 brought students together from across the country for two weeks of fitness, friendly competition, and campus camaraderie.

From October 1–15, college students climbed onto Blue Goji and Expresso bikes to rack up miles, represent their schools, and compete for the coveted Golden Spokes Trophy. This year's challenge introduced a new format designed to make participation easier and give more students an opportunity to get involved.

And while the miles have been tallied and the winners crowned, Fall Frenzy represents something bigger than a leaderboard: the power of fitness to bring people together.

Congratulations to Carnegie Mellon University for taking the top team spot! With 140.67 miles, CMU led the competition, followed by Fort Hays State University with 76.77 miles and Bucknell University with 76 miles.

A special shout-out goes to E. Maiden from Bucknell University, who topped the individual leaderboard with an incredible 56.59 miles!

Why Campus Fitness Challenges Matter

The beginning of the academic year is an exciting time on college campuses. For incoming freshmen and returning students alike, it's an opportunity to establish routines, meet new people, and find a sense of belonging.

But navigating a new campus, balancing academic responsibilities, and building friendships can also be challenging. Campus recreation programs play an important role in helping students connect while developing healthy habits.

Fitness challenges and friendly competition offer several benefits for college students:

  • Building Community: Participating in a shared challenge gives students a common goal and an easy way to connect with others, whether they're longtime friends or meeting for the first time.

  • Encouraging Healthy Habits: With busy academic schedules, students can struggle to prioritize physical activity. Fitness challenges provide an extra incentive to make movement part of their weekly routine.

  • Creating a Sense of Belonging: Representing their university in a nationwide competition allows students to contribute to something bigger than their individual workout.

  • Making Fitness Fun: Gamification, leaderboards, and friendly rivalries can turn exercise into an engaging experience that motivates students to keep coming back.

For campus recreation departments, programs like Fall Frenzy offer a ready-made opportunity to engage students, introduce them to fitness equipment, and create a welcoming environment where participation matters just as much as performance.

A New Format for Fall Frenzy 2026

This year, Blue Goji decided to switch things up!

Traditionally, Fall Frenzy has followed a bracket-style tournament format, with colleges competing head-to-head to advance through the competition. For 2026, we introduced a 15-day, most-miles challenge, allowing participating colleges to accumulate miles throughout the entire competition period.

Why the change?

The beginning of the school year is a busy time for college recreation departments. Between welcoming new students, organizing campus activities, and establishing fall programming, coordinating a full cycling team for a scheduled tournament can be challenging. We wanted to explore whether a more flexible competition format could make it easier for colleges to participate and encourage more students to get involved.

Rather than requiring teams to coordinate around specific tournament windows, students could contribute miles to their school's total whenever their schedules allowed.

The goal was simple: Lower the barriers to participation while keeping the excitement of collegiate competition alive. This format also gave campus recreation staff an opportunity to introduce the challenge to students throughout the two-week period, rather than needing to assemble a complete team right away.

And for those who love the excitement of head-to-head competition, don't worry! We're planning to bring a bracket-style collegiate tournament back in Spring 2027.

Congratulations to Carnegie Mellon University!

2026 Golden Spokes Trophy Winner: Carnegie Mellon University claimed the top spot with an impressive 140.67 miles, earning the coveted Golden Spokes Trophy!

The race for second place was especially close, with Fort Hays State University narrowly edging out Bucknell University.

Top Individual Rider: E. Maiden

A special shout-out goes to E. Maiden from Bucknell University, who topped the individual leaderboard with an incredible 56.59 miles! While Fall Frenzy celebrated team achievements, individual riders also played an important role in driving their schools forward. Every ride contributed to the team's total, demonstrating how individual effort can make a collective impact.

More Ways to Win: The Fall Frenzy Lottery

This year's competition wasn't just about finishing at the top of the leaderboard. We also wanted to reward consistent participation and give riders of all fitness levels a chance to win.

For every 10 miles completed, participants earned one entry into the Fall Frenzy Lottery for a chance to win a $250 cash card.

Congratulations to H. Choset from Carnegie Mellon University, our randomly selected lottery winner! With five lottery entries earned, H. Choset had five chances to win. And the prizes didn't stop there! The top 10 individual riders also earned Blue Goji swag in recognition of their efforts throughout the challenge.

By combining team standings, individual recognition, and a participation-based lottery, Fall Frenzy gave students multiple ways to stay motivated and celebrate their accomplishments.

Keeping the Momentum Going

Although Fall Frenzy has come to an end, the opportunity to engage students through fitness and friendly competition continues throughout the school year.

For college recreation departments, challenges like Fall Frenzy can be a valuable addition to campus wellness programming. They provide opportunities to build community, encourage consistent physical activity, and make exercise more engaging through shared goals and friendly rivalries.

And we're already looking ahead to more collegiate competition! Coming Spring 2027: The Return of Bracket-Style Collegiate Competition!

We're excited to bring back the head-to-head tournament experience, giving college teams another opportunity to represent their schools, rally their riders, and compete for bragging rights.

Thank You to Our Fall Frenzy Community!

A huge thank you to all 21 participating college teams, the students who put in the miles, and the campus recreation staff who helped bring Fall Frenzy to life. Your enthusiasm, teamwork, and competitive spirit made this year's challenge a great way to kick off October.

Congratulations again to Carnegie Mellon University, our individual winners, and every rider who contributed to their school's success.

Until the next challenge, keep riding, keep connecting, and keep making every mile count!
