Ride Like Fred: One Week. 292 Miles. One Remarkable Story.

When it comes to motivation, few people inspire like Fred Cornell.

At 79 years old, Fred is a daily rider on the CyberCycle at Westminster Point Pleasant in Bradenton, Florida. This past fall, Fred made headlines within our community when he logged an astonishing 292 miles in just 7 days during the Active Aging Week Challenge—earning him the top spot nationwide.

Now, we’re inviting riders everywhere to follow in Fred’s tracks.

Introducing: The Ride Like Fred Challenge

🗓️ May 12–18, 2025
🎯 Goal: Ride 292 miles in 7 days (or get as close as you can!)

This new challenge is a tribute to Fred’s incredible achievement—and more importantly, to the life and perseverance behind it.

More Than a Rider

Fred’s story goes well beyond the leaderboard. A U.S. Air Force veteran and lifelong athlete, Fred dedicated his life to caring for his wife, Maria, after a car accident left her paralyzed from the neck down. With resilience and love, the two weathered life’s challenges together. Fred made it his mission to stay healthy—not just for himself, but so he could always be there for her.

Years later, after undergoing open-heart surgery and receiving a pacemaker, Fred turned to biking as a safe, effective way to stay active. He now bikes 10 miles a day—and calls the CyberCycle one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to keep moving.

“I don’t wish to be branded as a CyberCycle champ,” Fred shared. “To me, my wife is the real champion. She is everyone’s hero—especially mine.”

How to Ride Like Fred

The Ride Like Fred Challenge will be available to all Blue Goji riders, across both our platforms:

  • CyberCycle bikes in senior living communities

  • Expresso bikes in gyms, YMCAs, JCCs, schools, universities, hotels, and more

That means thousands of riders—from teenagers to active older adults—can join in celebrating Fred’s incredible accomplishment. Whether you’re racing for 292 miles or riding at your own pace, you’re part of a nationwide challenge honoring resilience, strength, and the joy of movement.

You don’t have to hit 292 miles to participate (but hey, it’s a great goal!). The Ride Like Fred Challenge is about showing up, staying consistent, and pushing yourself just a little further than before. Whether you hit 30 miles or 130, you’re riding for something bigger: your health, your goals, your community.
